Funday Dog Show On the 13th July 2003
A Few Words From Sheila Rankin
Saturday 12th July 2003was the Breed Council meeting where item 10 caused quite a furore and one could be forgiven
for perhaps thinking the dog-game is not much to do with dogs but what a difference a day makes”!
Sunday 13th was the Essington Funday Show when the committee of that club gave everyone the chance to show
how much they care for the dogs themselves and to meet other enthusiasts in a happy and relaxed atmosphere.

The surprise Judges were Joe White and Eddie Stevenson and their double act could top the London Palladium.

The class for “Wrinklies” (handlers had to be over 50)
was won by David Payne who had blatantly offered a bribe,
but as the bribe, like everything else, was going to the Welfare
there were no complaints when the class was ordered to
about turn and last became first.
The puppy class had an entry of thirteen all being handled by people other
than their owners or usual handlers and this was the order of the day.
So much laughter, so much fun and the dogs responded to the relaxed atmosphere and were very well behaved.

The open Bitch class had an entry of nine that would have shamed some Championship shows and watching them moving you
could easily believe that you were at a Champ show, except that every handler was wearing a silly hat.
The KC should make this compulsory at champ shows; it would take the heat out of competing.

The spirit of the occasion has continued even after the event and people who were not able to attend have sent donations
to Mike Ruston or to me. The total figure raised has now reached £2000.
Mike has made an excellent job of thanking all concerned for their parts in raising this magnificent sum
and it has fallen to me to make the thanks on behalf of the GSD Welfare Fund.
But what can I say? “Thank you” is so inadequate but I can assure you that the Welfare committee is over-come,
not only by the amount but also by the inspired thoughts that raised it. I promise that not one penny will be wasted.
Thank you and God Bless.
